Closing Day at Mt. Baker
With NWAC reporting 7 inches of snow having fallen in the past twenty-four hours and the temps slowly rising to the low forties, Mt Baker Ski Area ended its 2009/2010 season yesterday with a base of 192 inches.
Silverton Ethnography
Silverton, Colorado is uniquely coarse and welcoming; the people are original, the ski area is unbelievable, and the rum is exceptional. This past weekend, I played anthropologist, completing a cultural ethnography of the skiers, interns, owners, snow safety directors, and business owners, who characterize the only ski town in North America that transports its visitors in a refurbished milk truck.
Rain Day at the World Ski and Snowboard Festival
It's been years since I wished for a rain day. But after four consecutive days at the World Ski and Snowboard Festival, a grey day focused on recovery is what my legs and my liver really needed to make it through the rest of this week. And to be honest, a break in the perfect spring weather was my only legitimate excuse to slow down from a nonstop string of cultural stimulation, harmless flirtation and late nights of bar time in the village...

Stevens Pass, WA (April 15, 2010) -- After a brief respite to mid-winter, spring is finally in the air, allergy-sufferers are suffering, and the snowboarding season is drawing to a close at Steven's Pass, WA--but not without a bang. Join Steven's Sunday, April 18th for the last day of the season, featuring a dummy downhill, pond skim, live music and more. And all proceeds go to a charitable cause: Outdoors For All.

9:00am: Registration for all events at Guest Relations.
10:00am: Big Box Jam at the Top Phlight Terrain Park
10:30am: Games & Booths begin
11:30am: BBQ on the Plaza
12:00pm: Dummy Downhill - Bring your homemade dummy and we'll send it down the hill.
1:00pm: Chuck-a-Duck
2:00pm: Pond Skim: Can you make it across the pond without getting wet?

The 2010 Orage Masters Runs This Saturday
Whistler, BC (April 15, 2010) -- The Telus Ski and Snowboard Festival starts this Friday in Whistler, and that means the opener event--and what may be the best ski event of the whole festival--The 2010 Orage Masters runs this Saturday, April 17. A team format makes for a relaxed atmosphere and good times, but you can also expect to see some of the best park skiers in the world--including Phil Casabon, Sean Pettit, and Grete Eliassen just to name a few--throw down in costume.
