Spring Turns on Whistler-Blackcomb

It’s May, and it’s still snowing.
At least that was the report from Whistler-Blackcomb last week. With a foot of new early in the week, how could I not make the drive? So, I phoned a friend and got on the road Saturday with hopes of late-season pow turns. Alas, the weather didn’t cooperate sun and warming temperatures reduced the talk of late-season steeps to you should have been here three days ago, and we dropped into Sudan’s to find dust-on-crust top to bottom.

Still, after uploading from base two, Blackcomb still has reasonable coverage, the park is well-maintained, and speed-groomers and a cold one at the top served up mellow turns in the alpine.

Lift-accessed turns are becoming rare these days, and skiing in the sun with softening slopes wasn’t a bad way to spend a Saturday. With Blackcomb open another week and Whistler re-opening into June, Whistler-Blackcomb’s still got the means to get you into the mountains. And there’s more snow in the forecast…
