“Bolivia: sand, wind, heat-cracked dreams.”–thus starts the 8th episode of Sweetgrass’s “On the Road with Solitaire” series, chronicling the crew’s gritty and semi-masochistic attempt at skiing Sajama, Bolivia’s highest peak. Due to a dental catastrophe, they miss the window for Sajama. Instead, they go to Plan Z, and head for Parinacota, a nearby volcano and one of a pair of 20,000-foot volcanoes that surround Sajama. The journey isn’t exactly epic or look fun–it’s through one of the driest places on Earth–but they get the summit and get the turns they were looking for. Check and check.
