Frozen Fish and Starry Nights: Adventures on Canada’s Baffin Island

A crew of hardy souls risk frostbite–and lost fingers at a local fish processing plant–during the first installment of their search for big mountains in Auyuittuq National Park on Canada’s Baffin Islands.

TSKJ contributor Conor Hurley, Claire Sieber and Jon Walsh make their way through the native village of Pangnirtung on their way to the park, stopping to take in some of the local culture before heading 40 some miles via (retro) snowmobiles into the mountains. They soon find themselves setting up camp north of the Arctic Circle, basecamped under frigid, starry skies and ready to take on the huge, lonely peaks surrounding them.
