Massive Glacier Break Caught On Film

While recording footage for the documentary “Chasing Ice,” the filmmakers witnessed a block of ice the size of Manhattan break off the Jakobshavn Glacier and fall into the ocean. The Heli-Ski Blog‘s Topher Donahue comments on one of nature’s most massive processes. The crew later learned that it was the largest glacier calving ever caught on film. While this event may have occurred in the salty expanses of the Atlantic Ocean, take this as a reminder to get out the touring setup and ski our beloved alpine glaciers while you still can.
