The Beginnings of Extreme: WESC — The First Televised Extreme Ski Competition

The World Extreme Skiing Championship (WESC), which was held in Valdez, AK from 1991 to 2000, was the first televised event of its kind. The WESC reshaped what was possible in the sport (and on 220cm straight skis) and changed the public’s perception of skiing in general–that these dudes were crazy, talented and badass individuals.
