Some people meditate to achieve enlightenment—others ski powder. In Episode Eight of the “Steeped in Tradition” video series by Alta Ski Area and Sweetgrass Productions, Dave “The Farmer” Van Dame does both at the same time. The 73-year old has been skiing Alta his whole life with the philosophy that life is best spent skiing as much as possible and living simply.

“Farming is a term that’s been used when people cultivate a resource in order to reach its full potential,” he says. “I try to do the same thing with a field of snow. I can ski untracked powder all day long.”

Let’s just say if Farmer Dave started a religion, we’d be first in line to convert.
