“What’s a New England ski area without a bright red chairlift? I spotted this humble two-seater at Black Mountain, NH, in 2021. Black Mountain is the epitome of a mom-and-pop ski area. While the resort is small, it clearly means a lot to the families that call this place home. The parking lot bumps right up to the ski slope, and many skiers had their cars parked at the snow’s edge with their tailgates overflowing like a day on the beach. There were coolers, lunches from home, lots of party shirts and tiny tots running wild in their ski boots. Parents lounged in beach chairs as kids lapped the main lift on their own, occasionally heading back to base camp for a slice of watermelon.” Photo: Katie Lozancich
