Hadley Hammer’s “Fortune”

Fortune has many definitions. To Hadley Hammer, it’s not monetary, but measured by moments and friendships and windows into new cultures—everything that professional skiing has given her these past 13 years.

Hammer just announced her retirement from professional skiing, using her skis instead to focus on a career in storytelling. Skiing has taken Hammer all over the world, connected her with lifelong friends and opened her eyes to new people and places. Born and raised in Jackson, WY, she now calls Chamonix, France home. Now, she’s looking ahead to devoting her career to telling stories about the sport she loves.

“Fortune,” filmed and edited by Sophie Danison from a trip to Hokkaido, Japan, is a letter of gratitude to skiing—reflections on all that she’s been fortunate to experience in the fast-paced life of a professional skier, a poetic voiceover by Hammer herself, mixed with some dreamy powder turns.

We’re excited to see what comes next for Hadley Hammer.
