“Grit & Glory” with Veronica Paulsen

Kings & Queens of Corbet’s may have been canceled this year, but that wasn’t going to stop Veronica Paulsen from accomplishing her goal of landing a double backflip.

In 2020, Paulsen made history as the first woman to land a backflip into Jackson Hole’s Corbet’s Couloir, winning the peer-judged competition and launching her career to new heights as a freeride athlete. Ever driven to improve, the ex moguls skier knew she could take it a step further. She made history in 2023 with the first attempted female double backflip, but didn’t stick it on either of her two attempts.

Paulsen spent last summer training on water ramps, with the plan of sessioning as many early season booters as she could before the February contest. But a lagging start to the season canceled the seventh year of the notorious freeride competition, and just like that, Paulsen’s dream of landing a double in Corbet’s was shelved until next year.

The latest in Paulsen’s YouTube series, Grit & Glory is a window into Paulsen’s meticulous preparation as she hangs onto her goal of landing a double backflip, with or without the pressure of competition.

It’s easy to assume a massive double backflip is a sort of ‘huck-and-pray’ ordeal. But watching Paulsen’s rigorous training and relentless determination proves that there’s no luck involved in sticking the landing.
